Located at Dempsey Hill, give the hospitality to be built in the area choices to choose specific aspect from the rich history of the location. Dempsey Hill was once a Nutmeg plantation before British buy the area to construct Tanglin Barracks. Designer wants to preserve the history value and bring back the past feel of Dempsey Hill by adopting inspiration from the original plantation of the area which is Nutmeg.

 

Nutmeg have a unique structure where by each layer of the fruit cover the other layers inside it. First layer is the fruit flesh contain the nutmeg seed whic also cover by mace. Before the seed dried in the sun, it will be separate from the mace first. The inside part of the seed will shrink in the process of drying. Then the shell will break and inside is the nutmeg ground. The concept of the hotel design is 'Encapsulate', which come from the act of each layer in nutmeg covering the others.
